What brand of software would you recommend for a small S Corporation whose business is consulting. Have looked at QuickBooks and it seems too sophisticated and time-consuming for such a small business.

Well, I'm probably biased. QB is actually pretty easy if you use the Home Page. It uses a pretty cool work-flow design that points to icons that will launch the appropriate dialogs to help you complete the necessary forms. Like you can create an invoice for your clients. Then there's an arrow from there to the icon to receive customer payments that you can apply to the open invoices.
There's a SimpleStart version you can try out for free & the newest version has a "Coach" that can help & prompt you through various tasks.
Another alternative is Microsoft Accounting.
